James Baldwin wrote, "People are trapped in history and history is trapped in them." In line with his insight, I believe that when when we dig into history, bring overlooked facts to life, and challenge common beliefs about the past, we may reach new conclusions -- which, in turn, can free us from the "traps" in our minds. Fresh thinking can inspire us in new ways. That's one of the aims of my writing.

Award Winning Learning Innovator and Author of Fiction & Nonfiction Books

I’m in my fourth career. My first entailed helping state and municipal agencies evaluate the effectiveness of their programs. The second involved applied behavioral research. In the third, I worked for an international leadership consulting firm and developed customized solutions to improve organizational effectiveness. After several years as the Vice President of the Consulting Services Group, I moved to Arizona and continued as an independent contractor, helping organizations hire, promote, and develop exceptional leaders. I have spearheaded projects for multi-national companies, universities in the United States and China, and small nonprofit organizations. Notable accomplishments have spanned designing a business simulation supporting Stephen M.R. Covey’s “The Speed of Trust”, to developing certification programs for Tsinghua University in Beijing, to leading strategy sessions for businesses and community organizations.

During this third phase of my career, I was recognized with the William C. Byham Award for Innovation and Excellence in Training Technology. Another program won the Henkel Award for Global HR Excellence.

My fourth career began in 2013 while deeply engaged in my consulting practice. It was then that I began writing historical fiction. I became fascinated by the parallels between the particulars of Emilia Bassano Lanyer’s life and the scripts attributed to Shakespeare, which led to the publishing of Shakespeare’s Conspirator. My objective was to bring her story to life and challenge enduring assumptions about Shakespeare. Since then, I have written a prequel and sequel to that novel. More recently, I penned (or keyboarded) a novel set during the Spanish Inquisition, called The Edict.

I have also co-authored two nonfiction books. The first is on developing a personal purpose, called Find-Fulfill-Flourish, and the second on teamwork and leadership, called The Catalyst Effect.

I have a Ph.D. in Human Learning (with emphasis on Organizational Behavior). I  have served on the boards of several nonprofit organizations and as president of two.

I live in Scottsdale, Arizona with wife. My son is a photographer and urban farmer in Brooklyn, New York.
